City’s water supply ‘holding up’
Scottish Water said today that supplies in the Dundee catchment were continuing to hold up well, despite the recent prolonged dry spell.
A spokesman said that what rain there had been “had fallen in the right areas”, providing run-off from the hills to maintain levels in reservoirs.

Ken Hutchison, North East area manager, said, “Water levels in Lintrathen and Backwater Reservoirs have remained steady since the lifting of the Drought Order in June, and we thank customers for their assistance throughout last year.”

He encouraged people to continue to value water as a precious resource by taking these steps:

* Fix dripping taps — a tap that drips once a second wastes 33 litres a day.

* Use a watering can instead of a hose or sprinkler in the garden.

* Use a bucket instead of a hose to wash your car or, preferably, wash it less often.

* Take showers instead of baths.

* Don't leave the tap running when brushing teeth or shaving.

* Leave washing machines and dishwashers until they are full before running them.

* Check the website www.scottishwater.co.uk for water efficiency tips.

Mr Hutchison said the situation would continue to be monitored, but no change was expected in the short term.
