Dual carriageway joy for motorists
Motorists travelling between Arbroath and Dundee were set to enjoy their first real taste of the new A92 dual carriageway link today.
Workmen have been busy since early this morning to ensure everything is ready for the switch to two-lane travel in both directions between the new Elliot roundabout at Arbroath and the east end of the Muirdrum.

The new stretch of road was partially opened to traffic on Tuesday when the contractors advised that they would still need a couple of days to complete a few minor works before the full opening was carried out.

The road surfaces have been completed for a few days but contractors’ personnel have been working on the central reservation barriers and drains and traffic has been restricted to a single lane in each direction.

This evening’s rush-hour travellers, who have had to put up with many months of speed restrictions, will be the first to appreciate the 70mph speed limit on the initial stretch of the new road to be opened, cutting the journey time between Arbroath and Dundee significantly.

Motorists have been warned, however, that the rest of the A92 route is still under construction and that speed restrictions and diversions will remain in place.

Tayside Police will also be monitoring the situation and anyone found to be driving irresponsibly or at excessive speed will be dealt with accordingly.

The entire road is set to open on September 27.
