Keeping an eye on growing problem
Landscaped areas on Dundee’s Ambassador Route along Kingsway East are regularly monitored and maintained, according to the contractors responsible for the work (writes Maura Bowman).
A spokeswoman for BEAR Scotland gave the assurance after complaints from a motorist who uses the section of the road between the Scott Fyfe and Pitkerro Road roundabouts.

“The upgrading of these roundabouts caused long delays and great inconvenience to drivers, as well as costing a pretty penny, but we were led to believe all the upheaval would be worthwhile as the environmental improvements would give a better first impression to visitors entering Dundee,” he said.

“I thought that was the whole point of the Ambassador Routes scheme.

“In fact, the roundabouts are a disgrace. They are overgrown with weeds and look neglected, unkempt and uncared for.

“What sort of impression does that give visitors to Dundee?”

The BEAR spokeswoman said the company took over responsibility for the maintenance of the roundabouts in May.

“Since then we have been monitoring what’s happening in terms of weeds and obviously had become aware some maintenance was required so we have had men out hand-picking the weeds,” she went on.

“That will be required every few weeks and that is a programme that will be ongoing throughout the summer.”

Bear Scotland receives funding from the Scottish Executive to carry out the maintenance work.
