And now, some hot news

We may be having some of the warmest weather of the summer, but temperatures are not quite record breaking, according to figures from the Met Office.
The highest recorded temperature for the Tayside and Fife areas yesterday was 23.2C, while the highest recorded in Scotland was 29.0C — a bit short of the record high of 32.4C.

The good weather is set to continue until the weekend, although temperatures are expected to cool on Thursday to around 20C.

A cold front will move south across the country towards the end of the week, but Dundee and Fife are expected to escape patchy rains.

A spokesman for the Met said we should enjoy the fine weather at least until the end of the Open in St Andrews.

“There will be none of those killer winds that will blow the Tiger off into the rough, and it will be a fine weekend for the final two rounds,” he said.

Tiger Woods is not the only one who will be hoping for the weather to stay fine, though.

Said Marco Caira, of Visocchi’s ice cream parlour in Broughty Ferry, “We are very, very busy. If you’re not busy just now, you’re never going to be.

“As long as the weather’s good, business is good. Long may it continue.”

The sunshine attracted scores of people to Broughty Ferry beach today.

Sandcastles were springing up all over, while holidaymakers played beach volleyball and football.
