A Dundee-born priest has celebrated his golden jubilee of ordination with a Mass of Thanksgiving in his Perth parish.
Mgr Charles Hendry, parish priest of St John the Baptist and St Mary Magdalene’s, was educated at Blairs College in Aberdeen and St Sulpice in Paris. He was ordained in 1955 in his home parish of St Andrew’s Cathedral.

He has since served in parishes across the diocese of Dunkeld, from Fife to Dunblane and in Dundee itself. He was made a Prelate of Honour by the late Pope John Paul II in 2003.

Joining the celebrations were Bishop Vincent Logan of Dunkeld, Bishop Ian Murray of Argyll and the Isles, as well as clergy from other churches in Perth. Perth provost Bob Scott was in the congregation.

It was a real family celebration for Mgr Hendry, with his brother Gerry and his wife Vina travelling from their home in Arizona for the celebration. And his nephew Charles was deacon of the Mass.

To mark his 50 years as a priest, Mgr Hendry was presented with a Papal Blessing and a cheque.
