| The 42 UGC cinemas operating in Britain were bought by US private equity company The Blackstone Group in December in a deal thought to be worth £200m.
But The Blackstone Group did not buy the rights to UGC cinemas operating in the rest of Europe so is now rebranding the UK UGC cinemas as part of the Cineworld UK group, which Blackstone also own.
Cinema business manager Richard Henderson today assured customers the operation of the cinema would not be changed as a result of the takeover.
He said, “UGC was bought by The Blackstone Group in December and our customers know that nothing has changed at the cinema.
“The UGC unlimited card will still be accepted and our ticket prices will not increase. All that will be changed is the cinema’s name, which will happen next Monday.
