Letters - 30 June 2005
Right to refuse
I AGREE with letter writer B. C., who criticised homosexual couples being allowed to adopt.
When I was a young orphan I would have hated to be a part of such an arrangement.

A child wants, and needs, a real man for a father and a real woman for a mother.

Children do not want to be a prop for homosexuals playing at happy families.

Homosexuals, whose lifestyle precludes them from producing children, have no right to possess other people’s children.

We can only hope that in this politically-correct madhouse children will have the right to refuse to enter into such a situation or walk away from it if they find it disagreeable. — Fintryman.

LETTER WRITER B. C. claims that two people of the same sex cannot bring up a child as two sets of views are required.

Is he or she insinuating that single parents are not as able as couples?

I am a gay man and would love to give a child a home when I am older.

A child should grow up in a loving family regardless of the gender or number of parents. — G. M., Dundee.

£60 shock at sports day
I WAS recently at Gowriehill Primary School’s sports day to see my grand-daughter. About 2pm there was a bit of a commotion and it turned out many parents had been given a parking fine of £60.

There are not many parking facilities in the area and none of these parents was causing an obstruction or a danger to pedestrians.

There were three traffic wardens handing out tickets. Do they go around checking which Dundee schools have activities and go there to get revenue? — Disgusted Granny.

Found in book

THIS PHOTO was handed in to us by a lady who works in a charity shop on the Hilltown in Dundee.

She found it inside a book and would like to find the person to whom it belongs.

If anyone recognises it they should get in touch with us during office hours. — Anne or Laura (tel 01382 575630).

Not happy with deliveries
I LIVE in the Dundee East postal district and am certainly not happy with my mail deliveries over the last 12 months.

I consistently get mail belonging to other people, who have the same house number but live in different streets in the surrounding area. Sometimes I can go two or three days without any mail then a large pile arrives.

Royal Mail can defend the sorting office record all they like but the number of complaints to your publication tells all is not well. — Postal Blues.

Unenviable task
DUNDEE UNIVERSITY prides itself on being a modern, hi-tech, safe and clean environment. So why does it have antiquated facilities for the disposal of sanitary waste?

The domestic staff there have the unenviable task of removing this from pedal bins placing it in another bag then dumping it outside until it is picked up along with the other rubbish.

There are contractors who can deal efficiently and safely with this type of waste. — Phil.

Plastic products available
WHEN ARE the powers-that-be going to stop wasting our council tax by carrying on replacing the broken glass to the walkway between Tayside House and Olympia?

Do these people not realise you can get plastic glazing products instead of replacing these panels every two or three months?

I know this building is to be demolished soon but they can start saving our money now. — Watching The Pennies.

Spoiled church character
WHO DECIDED to replace the pavement slabs with tar outside St Andrew’s Parish Church in Dundee’s Cowgate?

It has spoiled the character entrance to a church that has stood for over 200 years.

If it is cost, then the council should look 100 yards along the road where the slabs are continually being replaced due to heavy lorries being allowed to travel up the Murraygate.

Could we please have our paving slabs back (even the broken ones would be better). — St. Andrew’s Church Elder.
