Lifeboat launch for challenge

Pupils from a Dundee primary school joined Lord Provost John Letford today for the launch of this year’s summer reading challenge.
Class 6b from Forthill Primary were at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution boathouse in Broughty Ferry for the launch of The Reading Voyage by Dundee City Council’s communities department.

The class learned all about the challenges the members of the lifeboat undertake and watched a video, before being given a tour of the boathouse and the opportunity to see the lifeboats.

Mr Letford said, “Dundee City Council is committed to encouraging children to enjoy books and over the past few tears libraries have organised successful summer reading challenges.

“This year’s challenge, The Reading Voyage, is on the theme of the sea, ships, galleons, pirates, fish and all things to do with the sea.

“It is appropriate that the challenge in Dundee is being launched at the boathouse, as this year celebrates the RNLI’s 175th anniversary of a lifeboat being sited at Broughty Ferry.”
