Neglected pony found at roadside
A Shetland pony is recovering at an animal shelter after being found in a severe state of neglect near the A9 in Perthshire.
The Scottish SPCA called for members of the public to come forward with any information that may help them find the person responsible for the state of the 17-year-old animal, which their staff have named Prince.

Senior Inspector Don Wilson said, “He had cuts all over his body and lacerations around his hooves, which could have been caused by barbed wire.

“He had five abscesses on his body. One on his side had burst and left a hole the size of a tennis ball. His wounds were severely infected, some with terrible maggot infestations.

“This is a horrific act of cruelty of the very worst kind. There is no reason why anyone should have allowed this animal to suffer and quite simply, we want to find the person responsible.”

The pony was found at the side of the Auchterarder to Dunning Road, and anyone with information should call 0870 73 77722.
