| Although relegated, the Dark Blues were thrown a possible lifeline because of allegations relating to Livingston’s signing of Hassan Kachloul near the end of last term.
An SPL board hearing into the matter last Thursday broke up without a judgment either way, but sources at Dens Park were expecting a ruling some time today. For their part, the governing body were warning it might take a few more days before they were in a position to make a ruling.
By early this afternoon, they had received more information on the case from Livi, though a spokesman warned it would have to be digested by the board before a way forward was decided on. “We are having a look at the information, but no further meetings or hearings have been scheduled at this time,” he said.
There is even a chance the SPL will go back to the West Lothian club looking for more answers before they are ready to go public.
Even once a decision has been made, the matter is likely to drag on. The SFA are looking on with interest and whichever club is on the wrong end of the outcome of the investigations are likely to either appeal to the SFA or pursue their case through the courts.
Meanwhile, boss Jim Duffy spent the weekend continuing his attempts to rebuild his squad for next season — whatever league his team are in.
Jim took in games and watched potential targets, although he would not confirm exactly where he had been.
“I’ll keep that to myself for now, but I think it’s important that we continue to work towards next season and, right now, I have to do that based on what I know and, at the moment, that is that we’ll be in the First Division,” he said.
“I saw some decent players, but, as ever, our problem is going to be finance and it’s going to take some time to do deals,” he said.
