Duncan the dragon fired up to fight crime

Duncan the dragon meets Danielle Laing (7) in the Overgate.

DUNCAN (Dundee Co-ordinated Anti-Crime Network) has unleashed its latest weapon in the ongoing campaign to keep the city centre safe.
The partnership’s logo, based on the city’s dragon statue, has come to life as a cute and cuddly seven-feet tall character to be used to promote the campaign to the city’s youngsters.

The DUNCAN campaign, which aims to cut down on crime with a network of shopkeepers and publicans, also features a “little and lost” initiative to reunite lost children with their parents as quickly as possible.

And now the partnership, which includes Dundee City Council, the City Centre Action Group and Tayside Police, has commissioned the dragon character to take the message to schools and inform youngsters about the community safety aspects of DUNCAN.

City council economic development convener Councillor Joe Morrow said, “Judging by the early reaction of children to the DUNCAN character, I would say we have a definite hit on our hands.

“DUNCAN is a serious partnership that undertakes really hard work to make sure criminals and thugs don’t spoil the lives of others.

“The dragon character is a great way to promote the scheme to children and make them aware there’s always someone there to help.”

Duncan the dragon will be in City Square tomorrow between 10am-4pm as part of Volunteers Week.
