| Dadi Janki is the joint administrative head of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, which was founded in India almost 70 years ago and now has more than 7000 branches in over 80 countries.
The work of the university is inspired by the vision of a world in which every individual has developed to his or her own full potential and lives in harmony with others and the natural environment.
Brahma Kumaris works to promote peace at all levels, from individual self-development to international projects with the United Nations.
Born in India in 1916, Dadi Janki had little or no formal education but rose to become, while still in her 20s, one of the first spiritual leaders in India.
She is on a tour of Scotland which includes engagements in Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness.
For the last 40 years, she has travelled the world sharing her spiritual wisdom. She has addressed the UN on several occasions and is one of the 10 “Wisdom Keepers” brought together to advise world leaders at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.
Welcoming her to Dundee City Chambers today Lord Provost John Letford said she was a world renowned spiritual leader and the university was working to promote peace, tranquillity and love throughout the world.
She will be meeting the public at 7pm tonight, at an event in the Marryat Hall. |
