Dundee woman was Weakest Link ‘victim’

A Dundee businesswoman took part in the TV quiz The Weakest Link as a dare — and ended up being savaged by presenter Anne Robinson, writes Steven Bell.
Kary-Ann McGregor (37) said she had feared an even greater tongue-lashing from friends and colleagues if she had chickened out of appearing.

Kary-Ann, of Gowrie Park, said today, “Anne gave me such a hard time — and that’s why I am cringing about it being broadcast.

“She was going on about my name and I said it had been given to me by my parents after an old Hollies song, so of course I had to sing the first line.

“She also said I had wrinkles — which I don’t!”

Despite all that, Kary-Ann said she had no regrets about taking part and becoming the latest of Anne Robinson’s “victims”.

“It was meant to be kept hush-hush before I went down there. However, everybody knew about it and it is more than likely I would have been given a harder time from them than I did from Anne if I hadn’t gone,” she said.

“I did it for a dare. An application form came into my hairdressing salon out of the blue, and one of my colleagues posted it off for a giggle.

“That was about July last year, and I never heard anything back until I got a letter a wee while ago saying there was an audition at the Apex Hotel.

“It all happened really fast from there and I had to go to London for the filming.”

The Tele won’t give away what happened, but Kary-Ann’s appearance on The Weakest Link is scheduled to be broadcast by the BBC on May 31.
