Wendy wants old friends to get in touch
A former Wormit Primary School pupil, now living in Australia, is asking any of her old friends, classmates and work colleagues to contact her while she is back in Dundee for the first time in over 50 years.
Seventy-two year old Wendy Benje (nee Patrick) left her home in Woodhaven to visit her sister New Zealand in the early 1950s when she was 21. She enjoyed her new life out there so much, she never returned.

Now living on the Gold Coast, Australia, Wendy is currently holidaying in Dundee throughout this month and staying with her brother Noel Patrick, whom she had not seen since she moved away, although they have kept in touch by telephone.

Born in St Andrews, Wendy lived in Robert Street, Newport and Woodhaven Avenue, Woodhaven, while she attended Wormit Primary School and Newport High School.

She then went on to work in a veterinary practice in St Andrews and in retail at DM Brown’s in Dundee, to which she travelled everyday from Woodhaven.

Wendy, who now has three children, is also keen for anyone who may remember her from Wormit Boating Club to get in touch with her.

As it’s been such a long time since she has been in the area, Wendy believes it will be difficult to track down her old friends as many of them will have married and possibly moved away themselves.

Former friends she is particularly keen to find are Mary Melville and Margaret Duncan from Woodhaven and Betty McGregor, who she recalled was the daughter of a former police sergeant in Newport.

Wendy returns to Australia on May 26 and asks that any of her old friends contact her while she is in Dundee on 450076.
