CHIS WON’T RISK McINNES
Interim Dundee United boss Gordon Chisholm moved to ensure as many experienced men as possible would be available this weekend by adopting a one-in-one-out policy for this afternoon’s reserve clash with Aberdeen (writes Tom Duthie).
Although his recent absences through injury and suspension meant Derek McInnes could have done with a game, with fellow-midfielder Grant Brebner a big doubt for Saturday’s clash with Kilmarnock, he was pulled out of the side that took on the Dons at Station Park.

However, keen to add to his defensive options, Gordon included central defender David McCracken, who has missed the last two games because of a family bereavement.

“I am concerned that Grant Brebner is struggling for Saturday and, because of that, I do not feel I can take any chances with Derek in a game situation,” said Gordon today.

“Instead of playing, I had him in training with the rest of the boys this morning and I think a few good training sessions this week will benefit Derek as much as the reserve game, but, hopefully, avoid the risk of him getting injured.

“He could be back in the starting team on Saturday and, even if he isn’t, you saw in the derby just how valuable his experience is when he comes on.”

Gordon did stress he had not given up hope of having either Brebner or knee strain victim Jason Scotland fit. Both, though, will have to show a big improvement over the next couple of days if they are to make it.

“They have a bit to go and, although I want to give them as long as I can, I would say that, if they are not training by Thursday, they will be really struggling. If both are out, it will be a disappointment because they have been influential players.”

His 90 minutes this afternoon should see McCracken back on the bench on Saturday. That being the case, Gordon will be delighted by the added experience at his disposal.

“We’ve still got work to do to make ourselves safe and, if I have a player like David back, then it has to be a good thing.”

Also getting run-outs this afternoon were fringe men Billy Dodds, James Grady and Collin Samuel.

Meanwhile, United’s Tennent’s Scottish Cup Final tickets go on sale from Thursday. From then until Sunday, season ticket holders will have priority, before sales to holders of semi-final ticket stubs and vouchers A and B from recent home games commence on Monday.

Season ticket holders who also have semi-final ticket stubs and vouchers A and B will be entitled to purchase three tickets during their priority period. In these cases, voucher 28 from their books should also be used.

Postal applications will be dealt with under the same priority mechanism, but should be sent in now to avoid delays.

To cope with anticipated demand, arrangements have been made for sales to take place in the club shop, Dundee United Direct in Tannadice Street, and in the retail unit in the lower concourse of the East Stand, where only cash and cheque payments will be accepted.
