Another body found in city
A police inquiry is under way after the body of a 60-year-old man was discovered in a Dundee street in the early hours of this morning, writes Lynne Stewart.
Mystery surrounded the grim find at 1.30am in a grassed area off Watson Street, close to Arbroath Road, near Glebelands Primary School.

Stunned residents said they had wakened to find a lot of police activity and the grass embankment and path to the bottom of the cul-de-sac sealed off.

A white tent had been erected to conceal the body of the man.

Investigations were ongoing throughout the night before the body was removed and officers left the scene at around 9am.

A Tayside Police spokesperson said, “The body of a 60-year- old man was discovered at 0130 hours this morning in a grassed area off Watson Street.

“The scene was sealed off and an investigation is ongoing.”

One woman who lives in a flat overlooking the scene said she noticed a lot of police activity when she got up this morning.

“I noticed a lot of police and there was a white tent and the area was all cordoned off with police tape.

“I didn’t hear anything during the night.

“A lot of older people live round here, so maybe someone has collapsed. I hope it’s nothing worse.”

Another woman said, “I woke at 2.30am and noticed a lot of police. I can’t believe another body has been found.”

It is the third time police have been involved following the discovery of a body in a matter of days.

On Saturday, the body of a 54-year-old man was discovered in a house in Panmure Street, Monifieth. He has still not been formally identified.

On Sunday night, 34-year-old George Cushnie from Dundee died following an alleged incident in Napier Place. Two men are expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court today in connection with his death.
