| Shivering in the rain |
| IT IS about time that the bus shelters at the entrance to Tayside House in Dundee were replaced. |
| They were some of the first to be removed but as yet there is no sign of new ones.
When it rains, it’s impossible to use a brolly because of the “wind tunnel” effect so we stand there freezing and soaked.
We have shivered through the winter, while the rest of the City Centre looks resplendent with its stops and shelters.
Please, let’s have our one back. — Shivering.

| If unions had got it right |
| I WRITE about the TGWU shop steward’s letter. He or she has his or her facts wrong.
The Polish drivers are not being trained in order to obtain an LGV or an RCV driving licence.
They are however receiving tuition to bring them up to UK standards and become accustomed to our rules and regulations.
This is paid for by a private company and not out of the public purse.
They are not being trained by the Chamber of Commerce but by a company called Instep Initiative, a company owned by the Chamber of Commerce.
People like Merv Rolfe would not be having to try to bring prosperity and employment to Dundee if the unions had got it right in the 70s and 80s.
There was a Ford assembly plant built in Holland and not Dundee and the Timex company closed due to union pig-headedness.
Lastly, it is an insult to those who wish to work when the unemployed are offered a forklift truck course free of charge through the Job Centre and only 60% turn up. — Stewart Taylor, Arbroath Road, Dundee.

| Register of interests |
| I RECALL several years ago there was a proposal to introduce a register in which local councillors would have to declare their financial interests and membership of societies such as Freemasons.
Was this ever introduced and, if so, can the public inspect this information? — Curious, Dundee.
A spokeswoman for Dundee City Council Support Services Department said, “There is a register which members of the public can inspect by calling into the committee services section at 21 City Square between the hours of 9am to 4.45pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. The register is also on the website at www.dundeecity.gov.uk.”]

| Know what to do |
| I CANNOT understand non- Catholics lamenting the appointment of a so-called conservative Pope.
These critics claim to be concerned about Catholics (particularly those in Africa), who may be at increased risk of contracting HIV/AIDS due to the doctrine on contraception, which forbids the use of condoms.
What these non-Catholics fail to understand is that rarely is anyone forced to live his or her life as a Catholic as even most of today’s totalitarian governments permit freedom of religion.
As a skateboarder, my view has always been that if you want to decrease the chances of breaking your leg, then stop skateboarding.
And if sexually-active Catholics want to decrease their chances of contracting HIV/AIDS, then they too know what to do. — Skateboarding Atheist.

| Cheerleading team’s success |
| LETTER WRITER Joan Walker is under the impression the Tele sought us out for a story about our cheerleading success. That is not the case.
However, on another point she is right. There are more than two teams in Dundee. The Scottish Bluebells, Dundee Delites, Dundee Devels, Tayside Tornadoes and the Sharks are active in the city.
If she wants to see her nieces mentioned in the paper she should ask her coach to do what our coach does and contact the Press.
Morag Brannan likes to acknowledge her team’s success as they are national and European champions. — Maggie Gilmore (Assistant Coach), Scottish Bluebells.

| Spend money on playpark |
| I NOTE £405,000 is being spent on the redevelopment of the playpark at Broughty Ferry.
I think it is about time a little money is spent on the swing park at South Road, Dundee.
I am amazed the equipment there is not upgraded. — West End Gran.

| Soap filming location |
| WHERE IS River City, the BBC1 Scottish soap, filmed? — Reader, Dundee.
[It is filmed in Dumbarton. A former whisky bond is used for the indoor scenes. Many of the outside scenes are also shot in the town.]
