Victory in Europe Day

People celebrating in Dundee’s City Square, on May 8, 1945.

Sunday, May 8, will be the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
The Tele would like its readers to share their memories of what was a day mixed with joy and sadness as the fighting in Europe against Hitler came to an end after nearly six years.

Perhaps you were one of those who, like the people pictured dancing in Dundee’s City Square, took to the streets to celebrate.

Perhaps you spent it alone thinking of a loved one lost in the conflict or still fighting the Japanese in the Far East.

Perhaps you were a youngster who attended one of the street parties.

Perhaps you were a serviceman or woman who spent the day with their comrades at home or abroad.

If you have a memory or a picture you want to share write to us at VE Day, Evening Telegraph, 80 Kingsway East, Dundee DD4 8SL. They can also be placed in our post box at our offices in Albert Square, Dundee or emailed to us on letters@eveningtelegraph.co.uk. All pictures will be returned.

Alternatively, you may be organising a special event to mark this occasion.

Again we would like to know. Write to us or phone 01382 575231 between 8.30am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
