Dalek shuns Dr Who to promote Deja Vu

See you later, exterminator: a shopper has a close encounter with a Dalek in Dundee city centre.

Residents of Dundee out and about in the city centre should be on their guard against getting themselves ‘exterminated’.
With a new BBC series of Doctor Who having just hit the nation’s TV screens, Deja Vu nightclub on Cowgate has drafted in their very own Dalek to help promote the club.

The Dalek, which features a voice translator and working lights, was piloted by one of the club’s DJs, who guided the fully motorised villain around the city hoping to entice customers to the venue, rather than scare them away.

John Pearson, area manager for Deja Vu nightclubs, said they were unsure of the origins of the Dalek, but suspected it came from outer space.

“We are pretty sure it’s an original from an older series of Doctor Who. A friend of the company’s owner gave it to him some years ago and it has lain in a garage for the past two years.

“It’s in perfect condition though. We’ve had it fully serviced and reckon it’s worth upwards of £5000.”

The Dalek will be on display outside Deja Vu on Friday and Saturday night.
