| Paul Hammond, a P4 pupils at Brackens PS, received the money, added to his Save by the Bell account from city council education convener Councillor Kevin Keenan at a presentation today.
The scheme aims to help pupils save cash while learning real life lessons about how to manage their money.
More than 400 pupils are now members of the clubs in six schools, including Ardler, Brackens, Dowfield, Macalpine, Sidlawview and St Fergus primaries, with a further six set to join the initiative.
It is run by the Discovery Credit Union and once a week in the participating schools a savings point is open to allow pupils to deposit money.
Pupil volunteers act as tellers under adult supervision, and have been trained in all aspects of a teller’s job, including checking deposit slips, counting money, completing bank sheets and filling in savings books.
The project helps children to save on a regular basis and it is hoped the lessons they learn will stay with them for life.
The Save by the Bell scheme also helps teachers develop financial education in the curriculum.
Councillor Keenan said, “This is an inspiring project that will help pupils learn how to manage money and understand the value of financial planning.” |
