| Lynne Dailly believed the facility in Foggyley Gardens would not be as good after changes being carried out by the council. Twelve swings were to be replaced by four and, she said, the new climbing frame would be too difficult for younger children to scale, because the rungs were too far apart.
The main problem, she believed, was that the playpark would have fewer attractions and wouldn’t be able to accommodate as many children.
“The playpark had children coming to it from a wide area, and it wasn’t unusual to see them queueing to get on to the swings,” she said. “Surely this is going to get worse if there aren’t to be as many things for the children to play on.
“Since the old playpark has been closed for the works, my daughter Jody and her chums have been complaining they’re bored.
“If the new park is going to get filled up quicker, then this problem’s going to continue. People complain about youngsters getting into trouble on the streets, and the youngsters say this is because there’s nothing for them to do. I’ve complained to the council, but I don’t think I’m getting anywhere.”
A spokeswoman for Dundee City Council said today, “The playpark is being brought up to health and safety standards. We’ve met residents in the area, who have voiced concerns, which have been taken on board, and we will be providing additional playpark equipment over the next few months.” |
