NEARLY FINALISED
Dundee United boss Gordon Chisholm got down to shaping his team for Saturday’s vital SPL visit to Hibs when his players returned from their weekend off today (writes Tom Duthie).
The absence of midfield pair Derek McInnes and Grant Brebner through suspension at Easter Road means Gordon will have to reshape his team — and he admitted today he’s already close to finalising his line-up.

“With the exception of maybe one position, I’m pretty sure how I’ll go and now it’s a case of getting down to working on the shape of the team in the run up to Saturday,” said Gordon.

United have had to cope with injuries and suspensions all season. Lee Mair and David McCracken are still missing because they are unfit, but just as frustrating for the interim boss was having another free weekend.

“It’s happened to us a few times this season that, when we’ve had a good performance, there has been a break right after it.

“After our performance against Celtic, we would have preferred to have kept things going and got straight into another game. But now it is up to the boys to do that this Saturday.”

Mark Wilson came through Scotland’s U/21 defeat in Italy on Friday night unscathed and, with Stevie Crawford not being used in the full team’s clash against the Italians in Milan 24 hours later, there are no fresh injury problems to hamper the Tangerines.

Saturday’s visit to the capital is the first leg of a double header against the Hibees. Tickets for the second leg, the Tennent’s Scottish Cup semi at Hampden on April 9, are now on general sale.

The briefs have been going briskly and, although Saturday was the first day they were available to all fans, already sales are running into four figures

United are also offering special hospitality packages that will include breakfast, lunch and after-match drinks as well as luxury coach travel to and from Glasgow. Full details are available from the commercial department at Tannadice.

DUNDEE’S SEMI AIM
Much of the focus at Dundee today was on the youth team as Stevie Campbell’s side attempted to join neighbours Dundee United in the Youth Cup semis (writes Tom Duthie).
The kids were playing host to Celtic and, up for grabs was a home draw against fancied Hearts in the last four. The Dark Blues were going into the tie on a high after a 5-1 league success over Inverness Caley Thistle last week, their biggest win of the season so far.

The first team were working normally and attackers Steve Lovell and Glenn Larsen confirmed their availability for the weekend clash with Kilmarnock by taking part in today’s training session.

Lovell missed the draw at Aberdeen and several sessions last week with a calf knock, while Larsen had been unwell.

It was not a happy weekend for defender Brent Sancho. He has been away with Trinidad, and was at the heart of their defence as they suffered an embarrassing 5-1 World Cup qualifying defeat away to Guatemala.

SAINTS PAIR HURT
St Johnstone pair Kevin Rutkiewicz and David Bagan are undergoing treatment in an effort to have them fit for Saturday’s away game against Falkirk (writes James Masson).
Rutkiewicz has a knee injury and Bagan a hamstring problem.

Even if they’re both fit enough to be included, it’s unlikely they’ll make the starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Saints announced today that defender Jordan Tait has left the club by mutual consent. The former Arbroath player hasn’t figured lately.

IN PLAY-OFF FINALS
Dundee Texol Stars have reached the British National League ice hockey play-off finals, after Dundee born-and-bred John Dolan fired home the penalty shot winner (writes Katherine Trail).
A nailbiting weekend saw two games against league-topping Bracknell Bees go to a penalty shoot-out. On Saturday, Stars overcame a 2-0 deficit to make the score 3-3 at the end of regulation time. Overtime failed to produce a winner, so the game went to penalty shots.

After a best-of-five round produced no winner, it went to sudden death, with Stars’ Cory Morgan firing the winner.

Last night, Stars went 3-1 up, before Bees tied it up at 4-4. Then Stars were awarded a penalty shot and Cory Morgan netted what looked the winner.

However, the visitors wouldn’t go down without a fight, and, 30 seconds from time, Peter Campbell equalised.

For the second night in a row, the game went first to overtime, then to penalty shots.

Evan Lindsay showed why he was brought to Stars, as he turned away all but one penalty shot.

For Stars, Cory Morgan again scored in the shoot-out, but it fell to John Dolan to take the last one, and give Stars the win.

A fake slapshot fooled Stevie Lyle, with Dolan then shooting the puck into the top of the net, and the crowd and players went wild.

Stars now await the Guildford Flames-Fife Flyers semi, which will be decided this Thursday.

Tempers were frayed throughout, with Bees getting 64 penalty minutes to Stars’ 10, with Bees’ Martin Masa accounting for nearly half their total.

Man of the Match for Stars on Saturday was Evan Lindsay, with hero of the night John Dolan given the award last night.

Coach Roger Hunt said, “This weekend was unbelievable. The guys gave me more than I ever thought possible.

“They played absolutely fantastic, and I am so proud of all of them. It was wonderful for John Dolan to get the last one. He’s a Dundee lad, so it’s local boy makes good. I am so delighted. We beat the best team in the league and we’re not frightened of anyone now.

“The guys are really up for the final. I’ve never seen such team spirit. Team morale is great, especially when you consider we have players sitting out through injury and the import rule.

“It’s also great for the city that we've made it to a final.

“The fans were fantastic. They got behind the team and spurred the guys on.

“The team are a bunch of super guys, but they’ve a week off now to relax and recover.”

Meanwhile, Flyers lost 3-1 to Flames and now have to travel to Guildford on Thursday for game three.

If Flyers win, Dundee will get home advantage in the best-of-five final, as they finished above Flyers in the league. However, if Flames emerge victorious, it is they who will get the advantage over Stars.
