| The fire, which began in the living room, was well alight with smoke billowing from windows, when four appliances and an aerial platform ladder from Kingsway East and Blackness Road arrived.
An investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the blaze. Albert Street was closed for more than an hour and traffic was diverted along Balmore Street.
Station Officer Neil Kerr said, “We received a call at 12.30 pm informing us of a fire in a first floor flat. The fire was well developed and we weren’t sure the flat was empty.
“We sent in three firefighters wearing breathing apparatus to check the flat involved and other flats. We had to gain entry by force as there was no answer from some of the flats.
“We went up in the aerial platform to check the occupants of the other flats were all right and we brought one man down the stairs at his request. Thankfully nobody was injured or required medical treatment.”
Mark Tait was helped by firefighters out of his top-floor flat. “I just moved into my friend’s flat and moved a lot of my things in last night but I think a lot of my clothes are ruined by smoke,” said Mr Tait.
“The dog started barking and I knew something was wrong. I opened the living room door and the hall was filled with smoke.” |
