Chancellor’s seal of approval for Fife firm

Chancellor Gordon Brown paid a visit to Dysart today to give a new Fife food company his seal of approval.
Pancake Pods is owned by St Andrews Cake Company, which is part of the Kingdom Bakers Group, based in Frances Industrial Estate in Dysart.

Thanks to a £1 million investment, Pancake Pods uses specialist machinery to create unique pancakes, made with fresh fillings of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry.

The Chancellor then travelled the short distance to the Dysart Youth Cafe to carry out the official opening of the YM venture.

Based in a renovated building in Cross Street, the cafe has been made possible thanks to funding from several sources, including £64,000 from Children in Need for staffing for three years, £23,000 from the Coalfields Regeneration fund to help pay for refurbishment and resources and £20,000 from Fife Council towards purchase costs.

And just this week, LLoyds TSB handed over £5000 to help with future development.

The cafe is open five nights a week, from 5-7pm for under 12s and from 7-9.15pm for older children. Various health and welfare groups also use the cafe during the day.

YM general secretary Liz Easton said, “The cafe is proving very popular, and we’re getting between 25 and 40 youngsters every night.”
