Singing for a good cause

The choir’s musical director Helen Addison presents a cheque to senior charge nurse Ann Graham (seated left) from Ward 34, Ninewell’s haematology unit, and choir president Jan Birse presents the same amount to local CLIC fundraisers Christine and Jack Halliday (also seated), watched by choir members.

Two Tayside charities have been given a funding boost this week thanks to the members of Arbroath Male Voice Choir.

The choir donated £250 to the endowment fund of Ward 34 at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, and the same amount to Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood (CLIC), from funds raised at the choir’s Christmas concert.

The choir decided to donate money to Ward 34 at Ninewells in recognition of the care two of their long-serving members, John McBay and Charles Smith, had received there before their deaths.

“John and Charlie were in their 80s, but at the other end of the age scale, CLIC gives outstanding support to young leukaemia sufferers and their families and we are delighted to be able to contribute to their good work,” said Mr Birse.

Choir members are currently rehearsing for their next concert which will take place in the Webster Theatre on March 18.
