| Organised by the Scottish Executive and sponsored by the Co-operative Group, the Standing up to Anti-social Behaviour Awards Scheme 2005 was launched today by Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson.
The awards aim to recognise the drive, courage and commitment of people who have tackled anti-social behaviour and made a real difference in their area.
Nominees could include residents’ groups, individuals who have witnessed anti-social behaviour and given evidence in court, or a community warden who has gone the extra mile to improve the lives of local people.
There are three different award categories and winners will receive either £5000 or £1000 to spend on an anti-social behaviour project in their local area.
Co-operative Group chief executive Martin Beaumont said, “In every town there are people and organisations who are already making a real difference in tackling the problems of anti-social behaviour — helping in a youth centre, running a residents’ group or Neighbourhood Watch scheme or organising community clean-ups.
“The awards are intended to recognise and support their work and courage in addressing these issues.”
Application forms for the awards, which will be presented at a ceremony this summer, are available from Co-op stores, by calling 0800 1695013 or by visiting www.standinguptoasbawards.com.
All entries must be received by April 15. |
