Dundee students aim high for charity

A group of Dundee College students have come up with a daring way of raising money for local charities.
Students on the Adult Business Course (ABC) at the Constitution Campus are planning a parachute jump to raise cash for the Maggie’s Centre, Body Positive, Axis and A-T.

To make sure all the money raised goes directly to the charities, the organisers, Lesley Reekie, Caroline Wilson and Helen Livingstone, are putting out a plea for business sponsorship to cover the initial costs of the jump.

Caroline said, “We have 10 volunteers including classmates and friends to take part in the actual parachute jump, and we would like each of them to have a sponsor to cover the cost.

“Three organisations are already considering coming on board, Claverhouse, A1 Carwash and Wellgate Window Design, and each of these will have their name emblazoned on a T-shirt of one of the charity parachutists.”

The students are planning a range of charity events as part of their course. These include a car boot sale, a sponsored bridge walk and a fancy dress pub crawl.

The most bizarre of all the planned events is a car wash in bikinis, with the organisers claiming that both men and women will be taking part.

As well as seeking sponsorship for the parachute jump, the organisers are also looking for donations of goods and services for a prize draw.

Meantime, their charity effort kicked off today with a cake and candy stall at the Constitution Campus.

Caroline added, “We are aiming high with this project and have set a target of £5000 once we have completed all our events.”
