Grove pupils do their bit for appeal

Fund-raiser for Signpost International Roger Boon is presented with the cheque by, left to right, Priya Sahi, John Nicoll, James Anthony and Nat Dixon.

Grove Academy pupils deprived themselves of various treats in another selfless fundraising drive for the Tsunami disaster appeal.
Pupils at the Broughty Ferry school raised a combined £1750 — £750 from a coffee morning staged by two S3 boys and the remainder from a scheme where the youngsters donated money they would otherwise have spent on leisure activities.

Third-year pair James Anthony and Nat Dixon were so shocked by the news coverage from south east Asia they decided to organise a charity coffee morning, which they held at Broughty Ferry Baptist Church.

There was an overwhelming response from the public, with over 200 people attending.

Deputy head Sheila McLuckie said, “Our young people recognise that the tsunami has created a long-term problem and are already planning a variety concert later this term to raise further funds.”
