| Nursing staff described Isabella Walker, who was still living in her own home until she was admitted to the Royal Victoria Hospital a month ago, as “hale and hearty” and “extraordinary for her age”.
The centenarian was born and brought up in a large Forfar family before moving to Broughty Ferry, where she worked as a clerk for Kidd the Butcher in Brook Street.
After meeting her husband, William, who was originally from the West of Scotland, the couple married and moved to Canada.
Mrs Walker spent 35 years there before returning to Scotland 30 years ago after her husband died. She again set up home in Broughty Ferry.
Niece Isobel Smith, her only surviving family member in the UK, visited her aunt today to help her mark the milestone.
Staff organised a party for her. |
