Uniting to raise tsunami appeal funds

Pupils at Dundee’s Fintry Primary used money raised at the school for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s tsunami appeal today to lay out a 50 to mark the end of the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Dundee schools, nurseries and education services will unite tomorrow to raise money for the Asian tsunami appeal.
Fundraising events will see thousands of pupils making donations for the chance to wear their own clothes to school.

At Sidlawview Primary the whole school will be leaving their uniforms at home — apart from the staff who will be dusting off their old uniforms for the day. Parents and friends of the school have also been invited to join a coffee afternoon and raffle.

Nursery schools will be using a theme for their day, with children attending dressed in red, blue or tartan.

Education staff from Tayside House and Educational Services will be taking part in a dress down day and will be holding a number of other fundraising events.

At Douglas Primary School, local skiffle group ‘The Oldest Teenagers in Trinity’ will be performing street songs. Their performance fee will be donated to Christian Aid.

Meanwhile, Woodlands Dance Orchestra is holding an evening of music and dance on Sunday. Tickets for the concert, at the Woodlands Hotel, Broughty Ferry, are not required, with appeal donations to be taken at the door.
