Arbroath project Showcase the Street is looking for Angus residents, who have taken part in any recent Webster Theatre shows, to come forward and share their experiences for an upcoming production.

The youth dance, vocal and media project, which is based at the Old Red Cross Hall, is working towards its debut show on Friday March 4.

Entitled Webster Theatre, The Musical, it is simply a history of the theatre brought to life through the dance, vocal and media skills of the 80-plus young people, who currently attend the various classes the project offers.

The show will contain images on a large screen of interviews and footage shot as part of the project, which will link into several songs and dances on stage.

Shows such as Oliver, Guys and Dolls, Joseph, Chicago, Fame and Grease will be brought to life, and there will also be numbers from top pop and rock acts Madness, Abba and Queen.

These performances, combined with Showcase the Street’s own routines, a live orchestra and, hopefully, some special guests, is sure to create a fantastic experience for all the young people taking part as well as the audience members.

In recent weeks, the project has also been celebrating the opening of its new recording studio, which now forms a part of the weekly classes.

The studio is of industry standard and offers vocalists the chance to work alongside a producer to write, record and produce songs.

Recent and important funding from Angus Council through the Local Action Fund, Awards for All, and further support from local trusts and the TSB Lloyds Foundation for Scotland, has allowed the studio to be equipped to a very high standard.

Further to this, funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation has also realised the appointment of producer Nick Green.

Nick, a lecturer at Perth College’s music school, carries years of experience in the area.

He is currently working with young people in the project to produce an album, but will shortly be looking for 15 to 21-year-olds to attend a weekly course, which will teach them how to work the studio in their own right.

Spokesman Fergus Storrier said, “I’d like to thank all the trusts and Angus Council, who have made the opening of the new studio possible, and particular thanks goes to Clint Beattie for his hard work.

“I’d be glad to speak to anyone locally about using the studio — it’s a great facility and, with Nick Green now in place, it should offer a much needed resource.”

Anyone keen to share their experiences about the Webster Theatre should contact Fergus on 07834 628422.

Tickets for the show (£6 for adults, £3 concessions) are now on sale from Abbey Music, Kirk Square, with all the proceeds going back into the work of the charity.
