Mid-sea mercy mission
The yacht on which Arbroath man Brian Wallace is circumnavigating the globe has been involved in a mid-sea mercy mission.
Brian and his crewmates, aboard the Team Save the Children boat, had to suspend their racing to come to the aid of a fellow vessel also competing in the Global Challenge 2004/05.

They turned their yacht back to transfer vital medical supplies to the yacht Imagine It Done, after crewmember John Masters became ill.

Too far out into the southern ocean for any sort of medical evacuation to take place, John required painkillers and antibiotics after exhausting his own yacht’s supplies.

The injured crewmember was successfully airlifted by a rescue helicopter and then flown by a fixed wing aircraft to Wellington, where he is being treated in hospital for internal abdominal injuries.

A spokesperson for the race organisers said, “The yacht is now enroute to the Chatham Islands and Team Save the Children is back racing.”

With Team Save the Children now back racing they are holding more of a middle ground amongst the fleet, which could stand them in good stead as the make endeavours to catch the rest of the fleet.
