New Year ‘survived’ by Dundee Scouts
Over 45 Scouts and 20 leaders from Dundee descended on Douglaswood Scout Centre to celebrate the New Year differently by camping and taking part in survival-type activities.
On Friday, a Hogmanay party was held where the Scouts had the chance to karaoke and dance.

On Saturday, they took part in activities such as building shelters from natural materials, navigation, water purification and emergency aid procedures.

Thirty-nine of the Scouts and leaders headed for the Tay at Broughty Ferry on New Year’s Day for the annual Phibbies Dook, where a number were sponsored for their efforts.

Once everyone had warmed up, a three-course dinner was prepared and eaten with great relish and then, with the snow falling, they had a reasonably early second night.

On Sunday, with the snow still lying, they participated in cooking lunch on an open fire and polishing up their survival techniques.

A large-scale snowball fight ended the weekend on a high, with the party heading home tired, but happy.
