| Three months into Link Overseas Exchange placements in a variety of projects, the nine young people from Dundee and the east coast of Scotland are now preparing to move further inland.
Originally established in Angus more than a decade ago, Link is spearheaded by the Rev. Andrew Greaves of Dundee West Church, on the city’s Perth Road, and his wife, Vicky.
They have made it possible for hundreds of young folk aged between 17 and 25 to participate in volunteer projects in Asia.
Today the Rev. Greaves said all the Link students’ well-being had, thankfully, been quickly established.
He said, “We heard about this on Sunday morning and were, soon after, able to establish that all our volunteers were safe and well.
“My wife was then able to quickly contact their parents to let them know they were all okay.”
Comforted by the knowledge that the young Scots are safe, the charity is now trying to do whatever it can to help the plight of the affected areas.
“Everyone wants to lend a hand, but it has to be done in the most effective way possible,” the minister said.
“It is a disaster like nothing that anybody else has ever come across.” |
