Hampers from pupils

Pupils, Asda staff and police ready and willing to deliver the hampers.

Senior pupils from Baldragon Academy in Dundee were delivering Christmas hampers to elderly members of their local community today.
Over the last four weeks, the school has been working with Tayside Police, Asda Kirkton and the Looking Good shop in Haldane Avenue shopping precinct to gather 975 items of food and drink to make up the 55 hampers.

Local churches, the social work department, Kirkton Neighbourhood Centre and Ardler Neighbourhood Centre identified the recipients of the surprise food packages, which the children helped deliver in the school minibus and a van donated by the Looking Good shop.

Chairman of the community shop Bill McCabe also surprised the school by donating a £100 cheque to be spent on discipline for learning awards.

Depute head Gerry McGarry said, “Pupils receive stamps in their planners for good behaviour and when they reach 100, 200 or 500 stamps, we reward them with perhaps a school disco or school trip. This money will go towards these rewards.”
