‘Idolised’ teachers raise £1000

The participating teachers.

Teachers at Braeview Academy, Dundee, took to the stage in a mock Pop Idol competition in aid of pupils embarking on overseas voluntary work.
Eight teaching staff members were whittled down to one as the event broke the £1000 fund-raising barrier for four S6 students intending to volunteer to work in schools and orphanages in Sri Lanka.

Technical department teacher Miss Kerr, as Maria Carey singing All I Want For Christmas, was the winner in a group that comprised two departmental heads.

The girls — Stacey Anderson, Samantha Duffy, Lynsay Murray and Kirsty Cunningham — have applied for the Link Overseas Programme, which places young people in voluntary humanitarian posts in China, India or Sri Lanka.

The pupils still have a long way to go before they reach their target of £3500 each required for the trip and hope to raise as much cash as possible before they leave in February, 2006.
