| They have condemned the condition of the existing nursery at Brackens as “poor” and “unsuitable” in a joint inspection of the facility with the Care Commission.
Brackens and Macalpine are to be merged into a new school, to be built on Brackens’ Laird Street site as part of an £80 million upgrade of Dundee’s schools to be financed through a Public Private Partnership funding.
The new school will be able to cater for children from birth to five years and should be ready in late 2006.
While it is being built, pupils will be decanted, probably to underused accommodation at Ardler and St Fergus Primaries.
Brackens nursery was inspected in September, and little fault was found with its work. The report, however, said, “The fabric of the accommodation within the primary school was poor.” Internally the accommodation was spacious, bright and attractive, but the outdoor play area was “unsuitable for nursery children and was located some distance from the playroom.” |
