| Shortly before losing her life to cancer, Angela helped establish a special scholarship to help fellow students and this year’s recipient has just been named as 19-year-old Ian Christie.
A Brechin girl, Angela gained an HND in Applied Science and a BSc Degree in Environmental Analysis at Fife College and has been described as a popular student, keen to help others.
This week, Angela’s mum Sandra travelled to Fife to visit the College to light the Christmas candle in memory of her daughter and meet Ian Christie.
Sandra was welcomed by Joyce Johnston, Principal of Fife College, Christine Robson, Adam Smith Foundation Manager and Ruth Yorkston, Angela’s former Tutor and friend.
Ian (19) from Kirkcaldy, is currently in his second year at Fife College studying HND Chemistry. On completion next year, he hopes to study chemistry at the University of St. Andrews.
Ian said, “I am delighted to have been awarded this scholarship.
“I have heard a great deal about Angela and it sounds like she was a very special person. It is great that something so positive can come out of something so sad.”
The Angela Stewart-Grant Scholarship is part of an awards programme run by the Adam Smith Foundation, which is the Charitable Trust of Fife College.
Throughout the year Angela’s family, friends and staff from Fife College raise money through fundraising activities in support of the scholarship.
Angela’s mum, Sandra was thrilled to meet Ian and present him with the £500 scholarship.
“Angie would be so pleased to help other students. The scholarship is a very fitting way to remember her,” she said. |
