Dundee jobs boost as Boots plans new store
The Boots Group confirmed today that it is to open a new store in Dundee next April in a £2.4 million project expected to create some 40 new jobs, writes Ian Findlay, industrial reporter.
News of the new outlet at the Kingsway West Retail Park coincides with the completion of a £1.6 million refurbishment of the group’s city centre store, which is to be re-launched on Saturday morning.

It emerged earlier this year that Boots wanted to go ahead with an out-of-town-centre development in Dundee and had taken a lease on an 8000 sq ft unit at the revamped Kingsway West Retail Park.

But the group had not given an opening date for the new store, nor revealed the number of full-time jobs involved.

Although still very much seen as a High Street retailer, Boots has been opening an increasing number of out-of-town outlets.

The Kingsway West Retail Park is now one of the biggest of its type in Scotland and the Boots opening is a significant step towards full occupation.

Jonny Morton, Boots’ deputy regional manager for Scotland, said today that the group would be investing more than £11 million in new store openings, refurbishments and jobs in Scotland over the next 12 months.

“Our first store in Scotland opened in 1902 and our commitment to the Scottish community remains as strong as ever,” he said.

Boots currently operates 128 stores across Scotland. The Dundee city centre store is said by the group to be regularly in the top ten of its best-performing stores north of the border.
