Football girl on course to realise dream

Kirsty in action.

A Dundee woman was part of the team which won the USA’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women’s Soccer championship.
After winning a sports scholarship in 2001, Kirsty Marr (24) flew out to the States to take up her place at Lyndsey Wilson College in Kentucky, where she began her studies and training towards her dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Kirsty’s team played and won many games to reach the national final, which was played in Santa Barbara.

Her proud father Kevin said, “To win the final is a tremendous achievement for Kirsty and her team.”

Kirsty had a good track record before she began university in America. She played for Ayr United in the league, featured in the Scotland squad and, when she was 18, was selected for the English National Football Academy in Durham.

Once she has completed her degree, Kirsty hopes to become a football coach and stay on in America.
