Record company to host Dundee event
Tayside music lovers are to be given an inside look at the secrets of the multi-billion pound recording industry, courtesy of leading UK recording company Soma Records, writes Alan Wilson, Grapevine writer.
The Soma Skool “Positive Education” event will be held in Dundee University Union on Saturday from 1-6 pm.

Supported by several different organisations, including Scottish Enterprise Tayside, the event aims to de-mystify the mechanics behind the processes of making and releasing a record.

Participants can expect to get the low-down on the music and creative industries from a comprehensive line up of experts.

There will also be music and software demonstrations from top-level producers, the chance to quiz world-class DJs and tap into the knowledge banks of experienced professionals working at the top of their trade.

For those keen to take things a step further and start up their own music business, Business Gateway staff will man the Business Start-up booth to offer advice and information.

Soma Records staff will be available to answer any questions about the company.

Non-musicians will be shown how a career in the industry is possible through music photography, artist management, film music and journalism.

The session costs £5, or £1 for students and those on New Deal.
