| “Some people will say we had an experienced team out, but just look at the ages of some of the guys who played for us last night,” John went on.
“Steven Fraser and Ryan Stevenson are 19, Steven Anderson and Stevie McManus are only 18 and Andy Jackson, Kevin Moon and Willie Dyer are just 17.
“Also, Kevin Cuthbert, Sean Webb and Ryan McCann are 21, so there were a fair amount of young lads in our team.
“Fraser, Stevenson, Anderson and McManus have played in the first team, but the fact remains they are just young lads and they are learning all the time.
“The same goes for Ross Forsyth, who also played last night. He’s only 22, and he did very well on the left side of the midfield.”
Stevenson, who scored a hat-trick in the previous reserve win over Montrose, scored twice last night, with McCann, Webb. Jackson, Michael Moore and Chris Hay netting singles.
Jim Weir played for most of the game to keep himself match fit in case of any emergencies. Kevin Rutkiewicz is suffering from a leg knock, but, with Sean Webb coming through last night’s game OK, it may be he’ll partner Ian Maxwell at the heart of the Saints defence on Saturday at QOS. |
