Dundee minister is nominee for Moderator
Dundee’s Industrial Mission chaplain, the Rev Erik Cramb is one of three nominees for Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Kirk announced today.
The radical minister has become a kenspeckle figure in Dundee since his appointment to the chaplaincy in 1989, with a voice on all life’s issues, often expressed by unconventional means.

He is a former moderator of the Presbytery of Dundee and has served the General Assembly previously as convener of its committee of ecumenical relations.

He is a staunch campaigner for recognition of the disabled, having overcome being struck by polio when nine months old, with his only concession to regret being that it meant he could never turn out for his beloved Partick Thistle.

Initially dissuaded from the ministry, he worked in insurance until the encouragement of the Iona Youth Movement saw him follow his calling and graduate from Glasgow University.

From a background that owed much to the influence of the red Clydesiders and a lifelong association with CND, he found himself as chaplain to Yarrow’s Yard in one of his early ministries.

A veteran of anti-Polaris protests, he has been a continuing campaigner for peace, regularly appearing on platforms against the war in Iraq.

Rev Cramb is nominated for the office of Moderator with the Rev Loudon Blair, minister of Galston Parish Church, Ayrshire and the Rev James Gibson, minister of Bothwell Parish.
