Staff mark sheriff’s end of term on Dundee bench

Mr Laverty (left) presents Sheriff Crowe with a gift from colleagues at Dundee Sheriff Court

The faculty and court staff presented gifts to Sheriff Frank Crowe to mark his last formal day sitting as a resident sheriff in Dundee.
Sheriff Crowe is leaving for a three-year secondment in Edinburgh when he will be involved in judicial training.

On behalf of the faculty, solicitor advocate James Laverty thanked the sheriff for his unfailing civility and humility when dealing not only with agents and procurators fiscal but also towards those unfortunate enough to appear before him as an accused person.

In response, Sheriff Crowe said he had enjoyed his three years on the bench in Dundee, which had added to the happy period of his life spent in the city.

He had attended Dundee University and spent time as a procurator fiscal in the city.

It was only the lure of spending more time with his family that had taken him away to his new position.

Although today was formally his last day on the bench in Dundee, Sheriff Crowe will return over the coming weeks to resolve outstanding cases.
