| People living near the yard — off Strathmartine Road and next to the Downfield bus terminal — are worried about mounting rubbish on the premises and describe it as an “absolute eyesore”.
One local said the area is an accident waiting to happen, with youngsters regularly seen climbing the perimeter barbed wire fence and around the interior, which contains discarded gas cylinders.
The yard has been lying derelict for some time and fire ravaged a shed there a couple of months ago.
Household items have been strewn across the entire expanse and include bedroom furniture, smashed doors and general waste.
“There was fire that caused damage to the fences of the yard and the gate has fallen down, exposing what can only be described as a danger to the many young children in the area,” said one local resident.
Neighbouring businesses say the yard has lain dormant for a considerable period of time and nothing has been to return it to a reasonable appearance since fire gutted its shed.
Dundee City Council environmental officers have attended the property and are discussing the problem with the owner.
A spokesperson said, “The owner has agreed to tidy up the premises and repair the fence and they will be coming to an agreement soon.
“It appears much of the problem has been caused by fly-tipping.” |
