Early kick-off for Diamond celebrations

Emily and Robert Barr.

A Dundee couple started their Diamond Wedding celebrations a couple of days early today, when they were visited by Lord Provost John Letford.
Robert and Emily Barr, both 78, were married at the Registrars in Dundee City Square 60 years ago.

Both from the Linlathen area of the city, Mr Barr used to work in NCR as a paint sprayer and Mrs Barr worked in the jute industry.

One of the couple’s seven sons is Leslie Barr, who used to play football for Dundee and Montrose. Mrs Barr joked, “We’ve got lots of granddaughters now, so we’re making up for it!”

Mrs and Mrs Barr’s actual wedding anniversary is on Sunday, but the Lord Provost visited them today to congratulate them on their 60 years of marriage.
