Project aims to improve services in Charleston

Mr Letford cuts the ribbon to officially open the Turnaround Project, helped by Morna Wilson, chief executive Dundee Voluntary Action.

A new initiative, that will pool the collective resources of the Charleston community in Dundee to improve the range and quality of public and voluntary services, was officially opened today by Lord Provost John Letford, writes Bruce Robbins.
The Turnaround Project, based in Craigowan Road, is managed by Dundee Voluntary Action and will assist in co-ordinating community organisations and the wider business community.

Local residents will also be collaborating to provide services and activities for the local area, identifying gaps in provision whilst helping to regenerate the community and local economy.

Turnaround will consult local people and represent their views impartially, develop new community groups and services, ensure local involvement in policy-making and decision-making, give a voice to minority groups and those facing discrimination and provide support and training to existing community groups and services.

Opening the facility, Lord Provost Letford, a resident of Charleston and the local councillor, said , “This new initiative will bring together many of the wonderful people in Charleston who, with a few scant resources, have been committed to the needs of the community for many years.

“I am sure we will all take advantage of this very welcome initiative.”
