| Dark Blue fans will be able to queue for their half-time pie and Bovril safe in the knowledge that all money raised will be ploughed back into their beloved club after an arrangement was reached between the supporters trust and chief executive Peter Marr.
Previously an independent catering company would retain profits after paying Dundee a fee for the franchise.
It was Mr Marr who approached the supporters’ trust with the idea of them taking over the contract with Dee 4 Life instantly agreeing to the deal, which will see profit reinvested in the club.
Dee 4 Life chairman George Knight expressed his delight after agreeing the deal, which he hailed as the first of many joint initiatives between the group and Dundee.
“I believe we’re the first supporters’ trust to become involved in this type of scheme,” he said.
“Aside from what we pay the club for the franchise of the catering contract, all profit that is generated will be put back into the club and in all we hope to make in the region of £50,000 for Dundee.
“After speaking to people who have had the franchise before, we believe this is a realistic figure.
“Everything is now in place and we are in the process of recruiting staff.”
Dee 4 Life are also set to be heavily involved in the running of a new club lottery, Dee Promotions, which is set to be launched in the near future and are confident the scheme will also prove a money-spinner for the Dark Blues.
The trust has raised in excess of £160,000 for the beleaguered club with fundraising activities set to continue in an attempt to help Dundee recover from the ravages of administration.
“We have committed a sum to the club for the next two years which forms part of the business plan so fundraising events will continue to take place,” said George.
“The deadline for signing up to the giant banner we will unfurl at Dens is the end of August and there are still spaces for anyone who wishes to have their name displayed on it for only £5.” |
