| The firm, which was founded in 1993 by Brian Keyte and Dr Jim Brown with a staff of four, now employs seventy-four, sixty of whom were previously unemployed.
Said Mr Brown, who will stand for Labour in Kirkcaldy at the next General Election following boundary changes in Fife, “It is a pleasure to visit a real Scottish success story.
“Key-Tech’s history shows that it is possible for entrepreneurs like Brian and Jim to create and grow a hugely successful business which competes in the world market, at the cutting edge of technology.”
He continued, “It was gratifying to hear of the company’s approach to developing their staff from Brian.
“I was impressed that of the company’s workforce, sixty were unemployed before starting with Key-Tech and that the company has positively addressed the shortage of skilled workers in electronic assembly by getting actively involved in an ongoing training programme with a local company, Solder School.
“Of the ten people recruited this year, six have gone through this training programme.”
Key-Tech began life in the Kirkcaldy Enterprise Centre providing electronic subcontract manufacturing services to companies across the world, but now operates from the newly refurbished factory on Mitchelston Industrial Estate.
There is 10,000 sq ft of work space with an option to increase by a further 10,000 sq ft as the company grows.
Key-Tech manufactures and populates printed circuit boards, which are then assembled into finished products.
The company has grown to boast a turnover of over £4 million. |
