MP’s call for road upgrade
The death of the French tourist on the A9 has left the community of Highland Perthshire grieving alongside the woman’s family, the local MSP said today.
John Swinney, Scottish Parliament member for North Tayside, was joined by the area’s MP, Pete Wishart, in expressing sympathy following the death.

Mr Swinney said, “I would want to express, on behalf of the local community, our sympathy to the family of the tourist who died.

“The loss of a loved one is a terrible sadness, but, when it happens so far from hom it is a particular agony, and the local community feels that loss, too.

“Fatalaties on the A9 continue and it is becoming a sad but regular fact that foreign visitors are frequently involved in accidents on the road.

“The A9 is confusing in its structure and clearly is an impediment to the safe travel of foreigners and local people alike.”

Mr Swinney reiterated his calls for action from ministers to ensure “a safe road link” in the area.

Mr Wishart added, “The news of another death on the A9 is truly tragic and my thoughts go out to the family of the French tourist killed.

“But it highlights once again that we desperately need this road upgraded.”
